So one of the top diaries recently was a bag of garbage labeled:
“CNN Graded Sanders a D, Hillary A- for Debate”
It’s all about a CNN hit piece called “Debate coach: Bad night for Bernie” wherein a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University named Todd Graham declared Hillary the BIG winner at last Thursday’s debate in NYC.
It kinda needs unpacking before it gets composted. I’ll take a couple of items out.
NOTE: As usual the paid pundit from CNN fails to communicate that their parent company Time Warner is a HRC’s 8th largest donor.
About those transcripts
Here are a few true things he said:
She still has a terrible answer to the question of why she won't release her Wall Street speech transcripts.
Very true, and completely ignored by the Clinton supporters. He goes right for the classic false equivalence:
But Sanders won't release all his tax returns either. (They're both still ducking questions with answers that don't pass the smell test.)
Dr. Graham states (falsely) that Bernie refuses to release his taxes. He conveniently ignores the fact that Bernie is releasing his tax returns, but Hillary says she will not give up her transcripts until all the Republicans do something they haven’t even agreed to.
He is right about her answer failing the smell test. So after removing his fail, this remains:
[Hillary Clinton] still has a terrible answer to the question of why she won't release her Wall Street speech transcripts… ducking questions with answers that don't pass the smell test.
That sounds about right. Most people would say “duh” and that’s why she was booed for dodging the question.
Libya — Not my fault. Obama did it. Let’s do it again in Syria.
This was actually the WTF part of the debate for me. She basically said Obama gets the blame, along with the Libyan people. But Todd Graham thought Hillary scored well on her Libya points:
In a discussion about the U.S.-backed military operation in Libya, for the first time, while admitting that the ouster of Moammar Ghadafi didn't work out as well as hoped, Clinton compared Libya to Syria. Bashar al-Assad is a terrible dictator, just like Gadhafi was, she argued. The difference, she pointed out? Syria is worse now, and a bigger threat to the United States than Libya is, but Syria still has Assad. The effective takeaway? So perhaps keeping dictators in place isn't better than removing them.
“didn't work out as well as hoped”? I guess you could say that.
“Syria is worse now, and a bigger threat to the United States than Libya is”?
First of all Libya was NO threat to us before and now its an ISIS stronghold.
But knocking off regimes with no plan for the day after might be better than staying the hell out of a civil war where an ally of the regime has nuclear weapons? You gotta be kidding me.
I wish Bernie had reminded everyone about Hillary’s close advisor. He’s a good friend of hers, and he really admires how she ran the State Department.
The fact that so many Democrats now support this person, who thinks we should create MORE failed states, is surprising and disgusting.
How bad does CNN suck?
Lee Camp did a hilarious segment on the OccupyCNN protest
Young Turks also did a good segment on OccupyCNN with lots of facts about the media bias against Bernie and discussion about why they hate him so much.
Hillary’s backers at CNN will continue to push their bags of garbage. And the intertube dwellers will continue to unpack their bags of shit, clean off the true parts, rub their noses in that, and compost the rest.
