Tim Russert spells Iraq "IRAK"

On the news tonight, Tim Russert tried, and failed, to spell Iraq.

He corrected himself immediately, but god damn it was hilarious.

Can't wait to see the youtube replays!

Of course it matters less that Russert cannot spell Iraq, it matters more that he's still a shill.

    I've see far too many comments like that from our intrepid journalists. They like interviewers that don't follow up like timmeh.  I think I know why.  He makes them all look good by comparison.

•  In all fairness to Russert,

  Iraq, being a transliterated word, can technically be spelled in any way that can be pronounced correctly.  Although "Iraq" is the commonly accepted English spelling, "Irak" is not completely wrong.  Still, this doesn't mean that Russert isn't a dumbass.

    including the fact that the French spell it this way (mentioned above).  Really, it's a bit silly to use "Q" here when that letter is otherwise used exclusively in front of "U" in our language.

    I don't agree about the "dumbass" part though.  I think Russert takes way too much unfair heat in the left-blogosphere.  Yeah, he has grilled some Dems pretty harshly (and I'm sure the miffed feelings all mainly go back to the infamous Dean interview way back when); but he does the same thing to Republicans.  That is his M.O., and it's a good one.
