Bush's new theme song: "Like a Rock"

Wed May 31, 2006 at 12:46:25 PM PDT

My deepest apologies to Bob Seger and any Bob Seger fans out there...

Hopefully Bob would not be too mad...

According to this site, he appeared onstage with Michael Dukakis in his 1988 Michigan campaign appearances.

enjoy...

Like A Rock

Stood there boldly
Sweatin' in the sun
Felt like a million
Felt like number one
Mission Accomplished
I'd never felt that strong
Like a rock

I was popular
Didn't have a care
Shilling for billionaires
But not a dime to share
And I was leaving
Messes everywhere
Like Iraq

My mind was empty
My eyes were clear and bright
My talk had purpose
My BS machine was tight
And I held firmly
To what I felt was right
Like Iraq

Like Iraq, I was wrong as I could be
In my bubble, nothin' ever got to me
But through the floorboards went my popularity
Like a rock

And I told my lies straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of logic or reality
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams

Five years now
Where'd my supporters go?
Five years
I don't know
Sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they've gone

And sometimes late at night
When I'm bathed in the firelight
Death comes callin' a ghostly white
And I recall
I Recall...

Like a rock. standin arrow straight
Like a rock, chargin' from the gate
Using people's fear and hate
To get Iraq

Like a rock, the sun upon my sin
The Constitution, twisting in the wind
Like a rock, I am sinking again
Like a rock

  •  Never mind Bob Seger (0+ / 0-)

I'm pissed that you put that song in my head. Even if it is funny.

  •  Or how about this? (1+ / 0-)

    (Paul Simon)

When I was a little boy
And the Daddy would call my name
I'd say "now who do ...
Who do you think you're fooling?"
    I'm a consecrated boy
    Singer in a Sunday choir
My mama loves, she loves me
She gets down on her knees and hugs me
She loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
    And she loves me

When I was grown to be a man
And the Daddy would call my name
    I'd say "now who do . ..
Who do you think you're fooling?"
    I'm a consummated man
I can snatch a little purity
My mama loves me, she loves me
She gets down on her knees and hugs me
She loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
    And she loves me

    If I was President
And the Congress call my name
    I'd say "who do ...
Who do you think you're fooling?"
    I've got the Presidential Seal
I'm up on the Presidential Podium
    My mama loves me

    She loves me

She gets down on her knees and hugs me
And she loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
    And she loves me
She loves me, loves me, loves me, loves me

(apologies to Paul Simon for changing two words...but it might explain the Chimp a bit better.)

Actually I thought the whole diary would be based on this song.    Here's it's companion:

      American Tune
Words & music by Paul Simon

Many's the time I've been mistaken
      And many times confused
Yes, and I've often felt forsaken
      And certainly misused
Oh, but I'm alright, I'm alright
I'm just weary to my bones
Still, you don't expect to be
      Bright and bon vivant
So far a-way from home, so far away from home

And I don't know a soul who's not been battered
I don't have a friend who feels at ease
      I don't know a dream that's not been shattered
      or driven to its knees
      but it's alright, it's alright
for we lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the
      road we're traveling on
      I wonder what's gone wrong
I can't help it, I wonder what has gone wrong

And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
      Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
      The Statue of Liberty
      Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age's most uncertain hours
      and sing an American tune

Oh, and it's alright, it's alright, it's alright
      You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest
That's all I'm trying to get some rest

  •  So funny! (0+ / 0-)

You should send this to JibJab. And although I hate to recommend Chris Matthews, he did have a funny video montage of Bush and Blair singing "Endless Love" to each other this week.

I think he smells death on the R's and is trying to position himself back towards the center. Rats from the sinking ship and all that.

      He can go to hell.

  •  I thought... (0+ / 0-)

it was "Head Like A Hole". And you don't even need to change the words on that one.

  •  That's odd... (0+ / 0-)

I always thought the only thing missing from this ridiculous ad was Bob Seger, but this version definitely puts an interesting spin on things

    •  Dumb as a rock (0+ / 0-)

And the "Congressional Leaders" the ad mentions aren't too happy about being tied to "the rock" either.

That's why we have to tie "the rock" around their necks every chance we get.

Photoshop them into the same picture with Mr 29% and make posters!
