It looks like it's going to be a long, hot, scandalicious summer! Three stories are on the verge of breaking:
The Plame Affair. The DOJ's investigation into the Administration's outing of an undercover CIA operative is winding down, whispers say. Richard Sale of UPI has reported that two Cheney employees, John Hannah and Scooter Libby, are targets and could be indicted. Remember, once the mental image of their cellmate Big Bob making them his sweet little punk enters their heads, even the most disciplined Republican starts to become more forthcoming.
The Senate Judiciary Committee Document filching. A senate staffer has already been dismissed for stealing documents from Democratic computer files. A damning Sergeant at Arms report is coming soon. Josh Marshall has a good rundown, as well as interesting speculation that the tendrils might reach into the White House.
Halliburton bribery scandal. This could be the juiciest one, but it's still green on the vine. Both the government of France and the U.S. DOJ are investigating charges that while Cheney was CEO, Halliburton paid around $180 million in bribes to Nigerian officials. See the AP story.
In the months before the most important election of our lifetimes, this is a great gift. Let's just hope the press corps can muster up even half the aggression they had when Clinton was in office.
