Cheney should testify as to what happened, so that the "assault" can be prosecuted. We need to make sure King Cheney isn't ever assaulted again like that. Might be bad for his poor heart, he could keel over from the fright and then it would be a homicide.

And he can do that. But there's obviously another matter at hand here.

subpoenaed to testify?  Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see that claim in the article.

            from the article

Mr. Lane said he had requested that Mr. Cheney submit to a deposition but that he had been repeatedly turned down by the vice president’s lawyers. But Mr. Lane said the mire of accusations and counteraccusations that have been exposed by the Secret Service testimony has made Mr. Cheney an indispensable witness.

"Given the wide differences of view, he is the only one with certain knowledge," Mr. Lane said. He said he planned to file a motion next week in Federal District Court in Washington to compel Mr. Cheney’s participation.

The fact that Howards was allowed to walk away makes me think it wasn't anything like an actual assault.

About 10 minutes or so after the encounter, well after Mr. Howards had walked away, he was arrested
